Its a Ferrari: Assignment 4

Thomas Tiernan
Assignment 4

The striking Ferrari logo is an iconic symbol for all car fanatics. Ferrari cars are a status symbol of fast, powerful, stylish, and expensive cars. The logo was inspired by Francesco Baracca, who was Italy’s leading fighter pilot during World War one.  He painted the black horse on his fighter plane before going to war, and during a race at the Savio track in 1923, Francesco suggested Enzo Ferrari to use the horse on his cars, in order to bring him good luck. The prancing horse represents strength, power and speed, which Ferrari proves by winning race after race.  The horse is black in order to represent power and dominance.  The yellow background not only helps to brighten the whole logo, but was created in honor of Enzo Ferrari’s birth place, Modena. The logo is crowned with green, white, and red stripes, which represents the Italian flag. The Ferrari logo has maintained its status for the past 80 years and has not been altered very much. Ferrari has two different backgrounds for the logo. Either the shield or the rectangle. The rectangular Ferrari logo is located on the hood of all Ferrari road cars while the shield logo would be found on the side front wings of the car. Ferrari has succeeded with making their logo iconic, because many people can identify the logo and the powerful racing status it holds.
